Square Enix Planning More Remakes

Square Enix Planning More Remakes

Square Enix published its annual report today, and mentioned that in the future there was going to be an emphasis on “revitalizing existing IPs.”

No doubt Square Enix was encouraged by the overwhelmingly positive reception of its announcement of a Final Fantasy VII remake, and it firmly believes that recreating some of its classic games for new generations of gamers should be a priority.

SE also mentioned that it is considering smart devices, virtual reality, and other new platforms as it moves forward. Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest games have already achieved enormous success on iOS and Android, and DeNa’s Final Fantasy Record Keeper was a smash hit with over 5 million downloads in Japan. With this news, along with a new Final Fantasy, Just Cause, and Dragon Quest in the works, Square Enix might just be the publisher to watch next year; especially once we start getting more details on the FFVII remake.
