Square-Enix Re-Registers Final Fantasy Agito XIII Trademark

Square-Enix Re-Registers Final Fantasy Agito XIII Trademark

When Final Fantasy XIII was first revealed, the project was supposed to encompass three completely separate titles. The first is the Final Fantasy XIII, which we all know and (arguably) love. However, two other titles, Versus XIII and Agito XIII, were set to come out at a later date. Versus XIII has been lost to the ages, caught in a limbo semi-cancelation. Agito XIII, however, eventually came out in Japan as Final Fantasy Type-0.

The game had an incredibly positive reception but, for some reason, never made its way to America. It was released near the end of the PSP’s life-cycle and full localization would have pushed its release back until long after Sony had shifted its focus to the PS Vita. Some are theorizing that re-registering the dead name Agito may point toward a next-generation localization of the game for American audiences. However, at this point nothing has been confirmed.

Square-Enix has said that there will be some incredibly huge Final Fantasy at E3 this year. Many fans are banking on this being a playable demo of Versus XIII, or the announcement of Final Fantasy XV. A resurrection and localization of Agito would be cool, but certainly doesn’t live up to the scope of what Square is promising.
