The USK (the German ratings board) is a good place to uncover unexpected gaming tidbits. Siliconera did just that, finding a listing by Square Enix that will port Crystal Defenders to the PSP.

Crystal Defenders, a tower defense-like game that uses Final Fantasy Tactics A2 characters and enemies, is a small title (in terms of file size) that packs a gameplay wallop. The game was first brought to mobile and Apple handhelds and was later ported to the Wii, Xbox 360, and PS3.

Due to the game’s diminutive memory requirements, it will almost assuredly be a Playstation Mini application, adding Square Enix to the short list of developers – including indie studios and EA – that have already signed on.

This seems to make a lot of sense, as Siliconera points out that Square enix has a number of mobile and compact titles that could easily find a comfortable home on the upcoming service platform. Those cited were “ports of Final Fantasy Legend and Secret of Mana, as well as made for mobile games such as Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII Lost Episode and Kingdom Hearts Coded…”
