Suda 51 Participate In Cross-Media Project

While he hasn’t become a household name, Suda 51 has developed a significant cult following for his eclectic and unusual approach to game design and storytelling. His sense of style, while hardly beyond reproach, is certainly different from what anyone else is putting out there. With Killer is Dead around the corner, though, it seems the increasingly prolific designer has moved on to a new project.

Short Peace, an upcoming film from Akira creator Katsuhiro Otomo, is slated to hit Japanese theaters later this month. It consists of four short films composed by various directors, each featuring its own plot and possessed of a distinct style.

Suda 51 will be the scenario writer for the fifth short story, a game to be released separately called Ranko Tsukigime’s Longest Day. It will be coming exclusively to the PlayStation 3 and is to be directed by Yohei Kataoka, who was the director of Tokyo Jungle. The game is described as a side-scrolling “high-speed effect action” title. “Effect”, in this case, apparently refers to certain abilities one will have in the game, which is set in modern Japan.

Hopefully we’ll see both the movie and the game make their way Westward.
