Earlier today, during Nintendo’s 3DS Direct, a 3DS version of Super Mario Maker was announced. This is the same Super Mario Maker you know and love on the Wii U, with all of the same creation tools. There are a few limitations in this version, however. For starters, the mystery mushrooms containing various costumes won’t be present in the 3DS version. You also won’t be able to search for courses using Course IDs.
You can play Wii U courses on your 3DS, though. You’ll just have to play them randomly in “100 Mario Challenege” and through “recommended courses.” Course sharing will also be limited to local wifi and Street Pass. You’ll be able to share unfinished courses with your friends and work together to build the ultimate Super Mario course. Super Mario Maker comes to the 3DS on December 2.
