Announced on Friday, May 2, Defiance co-developer Trion Worlds revealed that it’d be kicking off the beginning of spring with a charity promotion to support Doctors Without Borders, a medical humanitarian group that perform life-saving work in nearly 70 different countries across the globe.
Throughout the month of May, from Thursday, May 1, 12am PDT to Saturday, May 31, 11:59pm PDT, a new cosmetic item–a doctor’s Lab Coat–will be available for purchase via Defiance’s in-game store. By purchasing this item, Trion Worlds will donate $8 for each Lab Coat sold throughout this month towards Doctors Without Borders.
If you’d like to be make a more direct contribution to the organization, you can donate via the official Doctors Without Borders website . As a disclaimer, Trion Worlds has cautioned that purchasing the Lab Coat will not be tax deductible.
Defiance will be going free-to-play on Wednesday, June 4, Trion Worlds announced on Friday, May 2. Existing players of Defiance will keep all the benefits they already enjoy, and those who own a copy of the game–digital or boxed–will receive bonuses when the game transitions to becoming free-to-play. The game’s creative lead Truck Dempsey has confirmed that this transition will come with “ no tricks ” and “ no traps. ”
Defiance will also be going free-to-play on Sony’s PlayStation 3 on Tuesday, July 15, and plans are currently in the works to bring the game to Microsoft’s Xbox 360.
