Yes, this is another Pokemon Go story. Yes, it has to do with a problem the game is having. And (we’re going for the trifecta here) yes, this does break it even further. Do you like actually catching Pokemon in Pokemon Go ? I’m going to guess you do, since it’s the whole point of the game. Well, right now it’s so broken that Niantic has confirmed it’s harder for you to do that.
If you’ve been playing recently, you may have discovered it’s been more difficult to get your new friends / candy piñatas. Even Weedles and Pidgeys can take multiple Poke Balls to catch, there’s a higher chance of Pokemon running, and the bonus experience you used to get from curve balls or “Nice”/”Great” catches has disappeared. Niantic confirmed this wasn’t an intentional move to try and get more money by altering game difficulty, but is due to a bug. It’s working on a fix for the problem, but doesn’t say when it will be out.
Because really, it wasn’t bad enough that the radar was broken, making it difficult to even find Pokemon. No, Niantic had to go ahead and do something that caused a problem that made it difficult to even catch the ones we do stumble across. Personally, I haven’t touched the app since the refresh rate went up to 10 seconds, because I was playing it on the bus and the alteration made it impossible to actually find anything.
