Tekken Producer Says Consoles Will Eventually Be Obsolete

Tekken Producer Says Consoles Will Eventually Be Obsolete

Have you ever been wandering around a mall or a discount shop and saw one of those single-controller, multi-console game systems that let you play knockoffs of old NES titles? Well, Katsuhiro Harada, producer of the Tekken series, thinks that is the wave of the future for game consoles… just higher quality.

Specifically, Harada thinks that cloud services will blow up in the near future. This, coupled with the shrinking size of technology and the growing speed of Internet connections, will likely make the idea of a “console” obsolete.

“When there’s the PS5, it will probably be just a controller and a monitor,” Harada said in an interview with Famitsu. “Then, the thing that will be left is the name of the service.”

What do you think? Are we entering an age where console and controller are one and the same? Will consoles be obsolete in the future? Let us know in the comments.
