Terry Cavanagh Cancels His Dark Souls-Inspired Game

VVVVVV and Super Hexagon creator Terry Cavanagh announced on his blog that he has canceled his latest Dark Souls -inspired game, on which he collaborated with Cristian Ortiz. The unnamed game was supposed to be a dungeon crawler similar to the aforementioned Dark Souls , but it also would have incorporated mechanics from Street Fighter . If that sounds like an interesting hybrid that sounds too good to be true, then you might not be surprised that Cavanagh agrees with you.

“My game with Cristian Ortiz didn’t work out,” wrote Cavanagh on his blog. “Essentially the design just wasn’t as deep as I had hoped when I initially prototyped it, and we got carried away and let the thing grow huge and way out of proportion. We ended up with something that was gonna take months to finish, and probably wasn’t a strong enough idea to be worth that kind of time.”

It’s a shame because Cavanagh had created a unique idea, even if it didn’t pan out as he had intended. At least Cavanagh is able to acknowledge when an idea isn’t working out, and it will be interesting to see how how’ll be using these newly freed months.
