The First Two Warcraft Games Won’t Be Remastered

The First Two Warcraft Games Won’t Be Remastered

Do you love classic Warcraft games? Well, you’ll have to savor the original installments, because they aren’t coming back. At BlizzCon 2016, Frank Pearce, the co-founder of Blizzard, says the developer has no plans to remaster the Warcraft: Orcs & Humans and Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness . Why? Well, there a number of reasons, with the first one being that they’re “just not that fun any more.”

That is honestly one of the reasons Pearce offered during the BlizzCon 2016 panel explaining why the first two games won’t be remastered. He said that they have the source code and assets still, but notes that it can be “really hard to access that stuff, unlock it, and figure out how it all works.” While they got Warcraft: Orcs & Humans running and working, Pearce said, “I promise you, in today’s world, by today’s standards, it’s just not that fun any more.” He also said Blizzard would rather work on Overwatch and World of Warcraft content or a new project. Though, Mike Morhaime, the other co-founder, did tag an “at this time” on to Pearce’s statement.

Maybe this isn’t the end for Warcraft: Orcs & Humans and Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness . Blizzard ruled out remasters, but maybe one day we could see a remake? That’d certainly qualify as a new project, wouldn’t it?
