The Last Guardian Is Not Canceled

The Last Guardian Is Not Canceled

None

We have been waiting for the longest time to see The Last Guardian hit consoles. Every ICO and Shadow of the Colossus fan is more than ready to experience the puzzles that this boy and his dog/cat/bird creature will be wrapped up in. Also, considering the trend that ICO and Shadow of the Colossus have set, we’re sure this one will be full of tragedy.

However, it looked as if the biggest tragedy was that the game itself might have died. With Team Ico boss Fumito Ueda leaving Sony, we all started wondering about whether or not the game would ever see the light of day. Ueda said he was committed to completing the game, but things started looking a little sour when GameStop told its customers that the game was canceled.

But then, Sony’s Patrick Seybold told Kotaku that this isn’t true at all, and even Ueda himself said that he was still working on the game.

So why was GameStop telling its customers that the game had been cancelled? Here’s an official response from GameStop (courtesy of Game Informer): “The Last Guardian has not been canceled by Sony as we incorrectly stated in an automated call to reservation customers. Because the game did not have a specific release date, GameStop made the decision to remove the game from our system. The Last Guardian will be reinstated for pre-order when a firm launch date is known.”

So it was merely an automated response that went out to customers due to GameStop removing the game from their computers. Still, The Last Guardian is a highly anticipated game, and its cancellation would be enough to ruin any gamer’s holiday season.
