The Ouya Launches Today

The Ouya Launches Today

Indie gamers, gird yourselves. The crowd-funded, kickstarted indie console of your dreams, the Ouya, launches today in North America and the UK. The console can currently be purchased from Amazon, Best Buy, GameStop, and Target for $99.99. Additional controllers will retail for $49.99. Ouya starter bundles come with one controller.

The Ouya market currently has over 170 free-to-try titles, including some major hits like Final Fantasy 3 and, soon, Minecraft. It’s also home to a number of streaming services like Twitch.TV and has a channel that has been specifically designed for building and testing your own games, which is sure to help budding game developers.

Amazon is currently sold out of the console and many Kickstarter donators still haven’t received consoles as rewards for their donation. If you’re willing to look around, a few other retailers still have a few consoles available, but it looks like this affordable indie box is following in the foosteps of the original Wii right now. Let’s see how long it lasts.
