The Week in Review & Rumor Round-up: Netflix Ventures Forth, DSi Gets Fat, Next GTA out in March?

None

The Week in Review news piece summarizes and highlights the most important gaming related news and rumors over the past week. This weekly article will keep you plugged in and in-tune.

Amid a load of title updates, system updates, sales results, and DLC announcements, three bits of news stuck out this week. For starters, Sony got the ball rolling with the announcement that Netflix Streaming is coming to PS3. Though no date has been officially revealed, it is being widely reported as being available next month (Nov. 2009).

Nikkei Online jumped the gun this week, reporting that Nintendo was nearly ready to release a larger DSi on Japan – as early as next month. While this was surprising, Nikkei is always backed by facts. Later in the week, Nintendo confirmed that they in fact will be releasing the Nintendo DSi LL (Japanese branding) on November 21, 2009 in Japan. Japan will get three colors at launch: Wine Red, Dark Brown, and Natural White.

It was also confirmed that the new, larger platform will be headed to Europe and North America (under the name of DSi XL) in the first quarter of 2010. The advantages of DSi XL over its predecessor is that it has total screen surface that’s 93% larger than the previous model, and a larger stylus, longer battery life, better viewing angle, and pre-installed DSiWare round out the benefits. If Japanese pricing is indicative (the DSi LL will retail for 20,000 yen), expect the new platform to retail for $199.99 in The States.

Lastly, a fake ad found in the manual of Episodes from Liberty City has got the internet abuzz. Apparently, Liberty City will not be the location of the next GTA episode/game – this seems reasonable as Rockstar likes to spread the love around. While the new venue was not outright mentioned, the torn corner in the ad seems to point to an idyllic, mountainous location. Other cryptic messages included a reference to Theatre Seagull and a movie-like announcement: “Opens March Everywhere”.
