This Kinect Accessory Blocks the Kinect’s Camera in the Name of Privacy

One of the biggest issues with the Xbox One was its always-on camera . For awhile, Microsoft was saying that the console wouldn’t operate if the Kinect wasn’t plugged in, and that it always had to be recording just so that it could pick up someone saying “Xbox On.” Now, although Microsoft has since reversed its position, the damage had already been done. Many upset people are very concerned about their privacy. Luckily, peripheral maker PDP is creating a new Xbox One Kinect mount that will help protect privacy.

The company’s new mount includes a “privacy cover,” which is made out of a material that will block both the Kinect One’s RGB and IR cameras. Unfortunately, nothing on the mount seems to block the Kinect’s microphone. The mount costs 20 dollars and fits nearly every HD TV model.

It’s a sad day when peripherals come out specifically to block consoles that may invade your privacy. We are getting closer and closer to the dystopian cyberpunk future by the second.
