THQ Orders KAOS Closed, Moves Homefront To Montreal

None

Though released to a mixed critical reception, KAOS Studios’ Homefront sold well at retail, shipping over 2.4 million copies by the end of March. Despite this, THQ has announced, today, that they have shut down the New York-based studio and shifted development of the Homefront franchise to THQ Montreal, which now sports the talent of former Ubisoft Montreal creative director Patrice Desilets.

THQ may hope that Desilets, who was heavily involved in crafting the story-driven and critically acclaimed Assassin’s Creed series, can bring critical success to a fledgling franchise that has, thus far, missed that mark. This is supported by a Eurogamer interview with THQ core games chief Danny Bilson, in which Bilson stated that he, “… Would like to get to a place where we don’t get mixed reviews, we get all great reviews, as certain games get.”

Whatever the case, however, THQ has confirmed that a sequel to the close-to-home shooter is in the pipeline, along with assurances that the online experience will be improved.
