Patrice Desilets used to work at Ubisoft, helping to create Assassin’s Creed and Assassin’s Creed II. He then left the company in 2010, ultimately joining THQ as a creative director in 2011. However, THQ went bankrupt and Ubisoft acquired THQ Montreal, where Desilets was working, meaning he was once again employed by Ubisoft.
Until yesterday, that is.
While Ubisoft seemed to be pleased to work with Patrice, he was fired from the studio yesterday. The initial story painted a picture of a mutual breakup, but Desilets says that’s not the case.
“Contrary to any statements made earlier today, this morning I was terminated by Ubisoft,” Desilets told the website Polygon. “I was notified of this termination in person, handed a termination notice and was unceremoniously escorted out of the building by two guards without being able to say goodbye to my team or collect my personal belongings. This was not my decision. Ubisoft’s actions are baseless and without merit. I intend to fight Ubisoft vigorously for my rights, for my team, and for my game.”
While specifics aren’t mentioned by Desilets, I imagine we’ll find out the true nature of his departure in time.
