In a recent press release, EA announced that three new DLC expansion packs will be coming to Battlefield 3 players this year. The first is Battlefield 3: Close Quarters, which will release in June. This expansion will feature maps that are focused on infantry combat in small, mazelike spaces. The maps will be largely “vertical,” according to the press release, and will involve several elements of destructible terrain from “furniture to plaster.” Supposedly, these objects will also somehow impact the environment of the maps you are playing on. Close Quarters will also introduce new weapons, assignments, and dog tags. It is currently the expansion we know the most details on, though its release date (in addition to the release dates of the other two expansions) is subject to change. Battlefield 3: Armored Kill is the second expansion pack which will be available sometime in the fall. This expansion will focus on vehicular combat featuring new tanks, ATVs, mobile artillery, and more. The maps in this expansion will be wide and open, allowing players to take full advantage of their combat vehicles. It will also feature the “biggest map in Battlefield history.”
This is what Patrick Bach, Executive Producer on Battlefield 3, had to say about the expansions: “Instead of delivering piecemeal map packs, we’re giving players a completely new experience with every themed expansion pack to keep the action fresh. Our expansions are designed to excite our large and active fan base while attracting new recruits with gameplay that is dynamic and unpredictable every time.” By Angelo M. D’Argenio |
