Battlefield 3 Maps Incoming

None

Just in time for summer, a new pack of maps is hitting for Battlefield 3. Slated for release in June, the focus this time out seems to be on smaller-scale, close-quarters combat. In particular, EA and DICE have shown off Donya Fortress, which is packed with columns and bookshelves that shatter and crumple realistically as they’re sacrificed in the midst of hectic close-range shoot-outs.

For a series, and particularly an entry in that series, focused on large-scale battles in wide-open levels, this shift toward close-in fighting in confined quarters is a daring move. While it increases the speed and intensity of a game, forcing players into more consistent conflict with one another and cutting down on camping and sniping, it also removes a lot of variety from a game that allows players to not only duke it out on foot, but step behind the wheels of vehicles or grab the joystick of a fighter jet.

Though there isn’t a specific date in June for the map pack, as of yet, it is known that the PlayStation 3 version will hit a week ahead of either the Xbox 360 or PC equivalents.
