There are only two mobile games that I’ve ever been truly addicted to. One was Game Dev Story, and the other was Pokemon Shuffle . It’s a simple to learn, difficult to master match-3 puzzler. I know that on the face of it that might not sound very enticing or original, but this game has so much charm and is so polished. If for no other reason, you won’t be able to stop thinking about it because the music will get stuck in your head (I dare you to listen to the tutorial tune embedded below). Most Pokemon fans first played this game when it came out on the 3DS. Soon thereafter a mobile version came along, which I played, and it eventually became the favored, more frequently updated version.
If you’re a 3DS owner and you forgot about this game, now might be a good time to download it again. The 3DS version of Pokemon Shuffle has been updated to version 1.3.0. The update features UI improvements that make it easier to track the progress of your Pokemon, and easier to travel between areas with a new fast travel option. Survival mode has been added, and now whenever you do really well on a particular stage you can earn Mission Cards. Mission Cards can be used to snag some valuable items that would have otherwise cost you real-world dough. Speaking of spending real-world money, you shouldn’t have to for a while: the update gives you 3,000 coins, plus an additional 10,000 coins and 30 hearts if you haven’t logged on in over 30 days.
