Ubisoft Montreal Takes It To Court

Ubisoft Montreal Takes It To Court

None

Last year, Patrice Désilets left Ubisoft for THQ. It was a particularly crushing blow for Ubisoft, as Désilets was the creative director for all three console-based Assassin’s Creed games. However, with most of the AC team still in place at Ubisoft, it seems they weren’t too worried about the future of the franchise. When three more members of the AC team – artistic director Alex Drouin, production manager Mark Besner, and associate producer Jean-Francois Boivin – left, Ubisoft started to get a little nervous.

Due to non-competition stipulations in their contract, these three could not look for work elsewhere after their departure, however, it was just discovered that they have been meeting with Désilets at THQ Montreal, which is technically a breach of contract. In response, Ubisoft has filed a court order to try and stop the former Ubisoft employees from working with THQ. If successful, it will at least keep THQ at bay for a few more months, though I don’t know how much good that would do Ubisoft, or the shrinking Assassin’s Creed team.
