UPDATE: Assassin’s Creed III Setting Confirmed

None

Beginning with a leak out of Best Buy’s internal marketing , the rumors have flown hot and fast all day over purported art from the upcoming (and highly anticipated) Assassin’s Creed III, which depicted what was thought to be the latest hero in the series’ canon.

Between the flag in the background of the first shot and later leaks from the upcoming April issue of Game Informer, speculation grew into near-certainty: Assassin’s Creed III would be set during the American Revolution. It was also thought that the assassin in question, armed with a bow and tomahawk, does not directly represent either the Americans or the British, but the Native Americans whose land had been wrested from them.

Ubisoft has now confirmed at least the former, unveiling the official cover art for the game, which depicts the newest assassin, bow clearly visible, pinning a Redcoat to the snow-covered earth, tomahawk raised and ready to strike. In the background, a battle rages on and an early American flag, with thirteen stars, waves.
