UPDATE: Tribes: Ascend Closed Beta Gets A Date

None

Last month, Hi-Rez Studios began taunting us with the possibility of an upcoming Tribes: Ascend beta, but they purposefully forgot to give us any of the juicy details. Well, today the studio has confirmed that the testing will begin on November 4th, but also mentioned that it will be invitation only.

But don’t worry; there is a way to guarantee your invitation:

“Those wishing to guarantee a spot in the Closed Beta may purchase the Tribes: Ascend VIP Starter Bundle at the game’s official website,” said a Hi-Rez representative. “The bundle includes automatic admission into all Beta phases, as well as permanent VIP status in the game, a 30-day Booster and 800 Tribes Gold. The VIP Starter Bundle is priced at a 33% discount to list price, as a reward to the game’s early testers.”

Hi-Rez Studios has been working on the latest Tribes title for a very long time, and we can’t really blame them. The last few sequels have been somewhat disappointing, even though the Tribes universe is fantastic. Fans have crossing their fingers that Ascend will finally live up to the franchise’s potential. Todd Harris, Chief Operating Officer at Hi-Rez Studios, discusses this potential and his vision for the game, and confirms its free-to-play payment structure:

“Our vision is to deliver a high production, AAA multiplayer shooter that offers a refreshing alternative to today’s slow-paced military shooters, while also happening to be free to play,” he said. “This holiday season, shooter players can continue to hide in cover and crawl across the ground while playing one of the familiar military-style shooters… Or they can get off their belly, strap on a jetpack and join us in high flying, high-speed combat in Tribes: Ascend!”

No word yet on when Ascend will finally hit the shelves, but sources indicate that it will be in early 2012.
