Valkyria Chronicles Duel Announced

Valkyria Chronicles Duel Announced

None

There’s a new Valkyria Chronicles game on the way, folks, and it’s probably not quite what you expected.

Instead of bringing the tactical role-playing action for which the franchise has come to be lauded, Valkyria Chronicles Duel is a browser-based virtual card battler that will be free to play. Over 200 character cards will be available, and the game’s official site says that Beta testing will be available from now until June 25 if you want to check it out for yourself.

The move appears to mark a complete shift from the original Valkyria Chronicles, which was a critically-acclaimed PS3 exclusive known for its hybrid of third-person shooter and real-time strategy mechanics. Since then, two PSP sequels have been released, although Valkyria Chronicles 3 was only sold in Japan.

Series fans have long been clamoring for another true home console experience to no avail. Duel would only seem to squash those demands, at least for the time being. Nevertheless, it’s only right to give the card battler a fair shake, so potentially disappointed VC fans should probably try to contain their rage for now.
