It’s not every day that a handheld game has a longer campaign than a console game in its respective franchise. However, this is exactly what is happening with Uncharted. The PS Vita title Uncharted: Golden Abyss is apparently an hour or two longer than Uncharted 3, according to game director John Garvin. Why is it so long? The narrative mostly. It takes time to tell a compelling story, and Golden Abyss wasn’t going to be any less compelling just because it was portable. Garvin expanded on the storytelling challenges they faced when creating a portable game in an interview with NowGamer.
Garvin went on to say, “A driving narrative that makes you care what happens next, that compels you to get to the next chapter… that kind of experience is possible no matter what kind of platform you are on. I’m sure all Vita developers would tell you that we’re just scratching the surface of what this device can do. I’m really excited for what we’re going to see in the next few years.” By Angelo M.
