Brian Fargo, who is probably most famous as the man behind the Fallout series, his name and imprint firmly stamped upon both Fallouts 1 and 2, did not begin his post-apocalyptic RPG development story with those seminal titles. Instead, he started with an earlier game by the name of Wasteland, from which Fallout clearly draws its inspiration. Wasteland, back in the day, sold more than 100,000 copies for the Apple II and Commodore 64. Following in the tracks of visionary developer and all-around funny guy Tim Schafer, whose Double Fine Adventure Kickstarter ends today (having collected over $3 million), the Wasteland 2 project already has almost $235,000 of its $900,000 goal funded. In addition to digital copies of the game, bonuses for contributing include boxed versions of the game, a signed collector’s edition, an NPC in your likeness, a stature in your honor (in game), and, for $10,000, a party with the developers and shrine constructed in your honor (the latter solely in game).
