Welcome To Skyrim: Have A Patch

None

You’ve just gotten back from the local game retailer on Novelber 11. In your hands, you hold The Elder Scroll V: Skyrim. Maybe it’s the collector’s edition, with the awesome dragon statue, but either way, you’re excited to pop it in and start adventuring through the northern reaches of Tamriel. You turn on the console, slide the disc into the tray, select the game’s icon, and you’re immediately informed that a patch must be downloaded to begin playing.

Oh, it’s a minor inconvenience to be sure, and day-one patches are become something of the norm, as glitches and bugs are discovered in games after they have already gone gold and been pressed to disc. That said, it does take something away from the mystique of the moment, particularly when the company’s confirmation of such a thing comes by way of a brief response on a forum. Bethesda community manager Nick Breckon stated, “Yep. All platforms going to 1.1 by 11/11/11.”

There are no details yet on what changes this patch will entail or how large it will be.
