Xbox.com Launches In-Browser Demos

None

For a while, Microsoft has been talking about bringing together Games for Windows and Xbox.com, melding its PC gaming platform and popular console into one god monster of gaming. Now, Microsoft has taken some of its first steps in doing just that, by appealing to the casual crowd. You can now play four free “trial” games on the Xbox 360 homepage. These games all play directly from your browser—no install required. More importantly, they are all versions of games that you can actually pay for (and install) the full version of.

The games available to try are Plants vs. Zombies, Bejewled 3, Zuma’s Revenge, and Text Twist 2, all coming from PopCap’s casual lineup. However, if Microsoft is able to do this with more hardcore indie games, such as Hard Corps uprising or Shoot 1-Up, they may hook an entire new generation of gamers into their digital distribution platform.
