Microsoft Announces First 12 Play Anywhere Games

Microsoft Announces First 12 Play Anywhere Games

If we learned one thing from Microsoft’s E3 2016 press conference, it’s that pretty much all upcoming Xbox One games will also be playable on Windows 10 PCs. In fact, Microsoft is heavily promoting its “Play Anywhere” program, where Xbox One and PC games are cross-buy (you buy it once, and can download it on both platforms) and allow you to share save games between your Xbox and PC. Now we know the first 12 games that will be covered under this program. They include:

  • Gears of War 4
  • Forza Horizon 3
  • ReCore
  • Sea of Thieves
  • Halo Wars 2
  • Scalebound
  • Killer Instinct Season 3
  • State of Decay 2
  • Ark: Survival Evolved
  • Cuphead
  • We Happy Few
  • Crackdown 3

Now, if you’re like me and have seriously stripped down your Windows 10 installation, you will have to re-install the Xbox app in order to take advantage of Play Anywhere features. If you’re a PC gamer who has skipped buying an Xbox this generation, you might be able to buy some of these games on Steam instead of through the Microsoft Store, but I wouldn’t bet on all of them. Phil Spencer has noted that Microsoft knows it can’t ignore Steam as a distribution platform, but he didn’t exactly make any promises.
