Xbox LIVE Arcade Tops $100 Million Worldwide in 2009

Forecasting and Analyzing Digital Entertainment (FADE) has released its annual report for 2009, which looks at the performance of the Xbox LIVE Arcade marketplace.

According to the report, the XBLA surpassed $100 million ($103.4 million USD) worldwide in 2009, a 34% increase over 2008.mark for the year ending 2009, at $103.4 million – a 34% increase from the year prior.

The report goes on to outline that the average price of XBLA titles increased over 10% during the year “from a $8.33 average in 2008 to $9.12 in 2009.” Furthermore, Microsoft’s Summer of Arcade campaign continued to be a brilliant marketing vehicle. The XBLA saw “incredible sales numbers” during Summer of Arcade on titles such as Trials HD, Shadow Complex, and Marvel vs. Capcom.

The only downside, in terms of sales, is that average revenue per user dropped to $2.79 on the year. Despite this decrease, FADE predicts the general trend in growth will continue in 2010, especially late in the year when Natal launches, “which will drive new types of Arcade games… and additional hardware into homes.”
