Xbox One’s Fitness App Is a Fit Hit

Xbox One’s Fitness App Is a Fit Hit

When motion controls were first introduced to the world of gaming, fitness games were all the rage. “Wait you mean I can lose weight while playing video games? Sign me up!” said the gamer population. Unfortunately, most of these gamers then left their fitness games untouched and instead decided to go ahead and play BioShock Infinite while parking their ass on the couch and stuffing a bowl of Cheetos down in mouth. However, that’s not going to stop people from trying, and since the Wii Fit is now old hat, it’s the Xbox One’s turn to get in on the fitness craze.

The Xbox Fitness app, which allows you to work out in your living room with Kinect, is seeing some heavy traffic these days. Over 1.5 million workouts have been logged through the app once it launched in November. Then again, when you consider that almost two million people have purchased Xbox Ones, that means that there are still quite a few couch potatoes out there. Nonetheless, Microsoft feels that the app has a promising future. They are currently looking into putting the app on tablets, phones, PCs, and other devices other than the Xbox One.

“We’ve been pretty happy with the pick up,” said Dave McCarthy, general manager for Lifestyle Entertainment at Microsoft Studios. “I’m feeling really positive.”
