XCOM Returns To Its Strategy Roots

XCOM Returns To Its Strategy Roots

None

Perhaps you’re a bit dubious about the appeal of a first-person XCOM shooter. 2K Marin has promised that core idiosyncrasies of the XCOM experience will be making their way into the game, but there’s a void deep in X-COM players’ hearts that can be filled only by a true-to-form strategy experience.

Luckily, as revealed by the February cover of Game Informer, they’re getting one from Sid Meier’s Firaxis Games. The game, titled XCOM: Enemy Unknown, will feature destructible tactical environments and a real-time strategic view that melds with turn-based combat (I’m getting echoes of X-COM: Apocalypse from that). Means of improving the organization’s capabilities as the game wears on have also been hinted at, likely indicating the return of research and, hopefully, base-building.

According to Steve Martin, president of Firaxis Games, “We were careful to keep XCOM: Enemy Unknown true to the elements that made X-COM such a revered game while delivering an entirely new story and gameplay experience for both die-hard X-COM fans and newcomers to the franchise.”
