Yu Suzuki Speaks Out About Shenmue

None

In an exclusive interview with French Shenmue fansite Shenmue Master, Yu Suzuki went into hitherto unknown detail on the future of the Shenmue series. While we would be remiss to discuss the potential storyline spoilers in any specific detail, the man is clearly still emotionally invested in the project and would love to finish it.

Shenmue—the first game itself was a $47 million project for SEGA—never recouped its expenditures over two titles, a recently shut down phone experiment, and a canned MMO. Despite this, it has developed a cult fandom, which has ardently petitioned and pled for a new entry in the series. For those people, Suzuki’s words carried special import as, near the end of his interview, he reveals that Shenmue is an intellectual property like any other, and that it’s certainly possible to purchase the rights to it from SEGA.

Could this be the break Shenmue fans have been waiting for?
