Vigil Games, the studio behind Warhammer 40,000: Dark Millennium, will lay off 79 employees next month, according to parent company THQ. The layoffs are part of a major overhaul of Dark Millennium itself. While the game was originally planned to be an MMO, the newly reworked Vigil studio will change its focus to an “immersive single player and online multiplayer experience.” This makes it sound like the game will be a run of the mill sci-fi RPG when all is said and done. Here is what Brian Farrell, president and CEO of THQ had to say about the change.
THQ has not commented on whether or not these layoffs will affect other Vigil projects, such as Darksiders II, but has stated that it will not ship the sequel until it is “perfect.” A THQ representative said that the company will be working to help the laid off employees find new positions. The layoffs will begin on May 28. By Angelo M. D’Argenio |
