3D Gaming Isn’t A Focus Of The PS4

3D Gaming Isn’t A Focus Of The PS4

Remember 3D gaming? It’s an integral part of the Nintendo 3DS. It was a key feature of the PS3 with several marquee titles enabling the feature.

It’s not a main focus for the PlayStation 4, however. The reason for this isn’t entirely surprising.

“We made [3D] a big thing, because it was led by [the] consumer electronics side of Sony,” Shuhei Yoshida told Polygon . “Now the consumer electronics side of Sony, and all the companies have shifted focus from 3D TVs to something else. So, they’re not talking about it. Why are we?”

As someone who’s never been onboard with the 3D revolution, I’m not surprised. Not only is the hardware expensive, but there has never been a satisfactory payoff. Other than the anime cut scenes in Fire Emblem Awakening, I can’t even remember the last time that I enjoyed using 3D on my 3DS.

Good for Sony for listening to consumer trends.
