If, somehow, you still don’t have a Nintendo 3DS after all these years (or you want to indoctrinate a reticent friend or family member), you’re about to have the best opportunity yet to pick one up. Nintendo is releasing two special-edition versions of its latest New Nintendo 3DS model on Black Friday for the low price of $99. Available in white or black, the systems are the smaller New 3DS (not the XL) and come with interchangeable Mario-themed cover plates. The console does not come with any games, but it’s still a fantastic value.
It is unclear whether this price point is only for Black Friday or if they will be available for $99 going forward. Nintendo’s press release points to the latter, making this an excellent value for one of the most prolific handheld consoles ever. There’s still plenty on the horizon for the 3DS, with Pokemon Sun & Moon releasing later this month and titles like Pikmin, Ever Oasis , and Dragon Quest VIII coming next year. Even this month’s Animal Crossing New Leaf: Welcome amiibo update has brought with it tons to do, so there’s no shortage of great 3DS games to play right now.
I kind of wish I had picked up a standard New Nintendo 3DS instead of an XL, because I’d love to put these Xenoblade cover plates I have kicking around to use. If I didn’t already have my system, I’d be all over this deal.
