Acer to Enter Console Market?

None

Well not exactly, but kind of; here’s a little background for you. Acer is a Taiwanese computer manufacturer that is most readily recognized for their laptop models. Recently, the company acquired Gateway and along with it, Packard Bell and eMachines. In an interview with BetaNews at its press event on Wednesday, Acer’s senior vice president, James T. Wong, said that his company is building a game machine that will be centered on “open standards.”

Wong told BetaNews that, “If you look at most of the other game machines that are out there right now — Nintendo’s, the Xbox — they are ‘closed’ and proprietary systems,” and that his company was keen to bring “openness” to the games market. Additionally, Wong sees his company incorporating “new and innovative form factors and applications” into all of their products.
