ACII And Halo 3 Will Not Be In First Wave Of Games With Gold

ACII And Halo 3 Will Not Be In First Wave Of Games With Gold

When the Games with Gold program was announced at Microsoft’s E3 press conference, a clear echo of Sony’s Instant Game Collection on its PlayStation Plus service, the presenter offered two names to help whet our appetite for the program: Assassin’s Creed II and Halo 3. While neither of these is a recent release, they’re both highly acclaimed titles both within their respective series and in general.

Unfortunately, they will not be part of the July releases for Games with Gold . Instead, Defense Grid: The Awakening has gone free as of today. Why the change? Well, there was no change. Microsoft’s language at their media briefing was that they’d “like to share just two of the titles [they’re] going to offer over the next few months: Assassin’s Creed II and Halo 3.”

Why the miscommunication? Because they preceded that with “to kick off that program.” Ever since the Xbox One reveal, Microsoft seems to have lacked an understanding of the power of impression in marketing. Hopefully they’ll get their heads on straight sooner rather than later.
