Backwards Compatibility and Name Changes? Sony Says No.

Backwards Compatibility and Name Changes? Sony Says No.

Sony has been doing some surveying lately to see what users might like to see in future PS4 updates. This is nice, and a good move on Sony’s part because the Xbox One has a major update coming in November; soon you’ll be able to play most of your favorite Xbox 360 games on your Xbox One. So that’s Microsoft and Nintendo with backwards compatibility. Can we expect the same from Sony anytime soon?

No. Plain and simple, that was World Wide Studios bossman Shuhei Yoshida’s reply to a fan’s tweet asking if we’d be able to play PS3 games on our PS4s. So there’s one crushed dream. One of the other common requests from the features survey seems a more modest boon: the ability to change your PSN username. Rather than beat around the bush, Yoshida was pretty honest, saying: “We are all aware that lots of people are asking [to be able to change their PSN name], and our engineers have been looking into what they can do. As soon as we know, we’ll let you know but as of today, we don’t know if we can ever do it.” Damn, they don’t know if they can ever do it?! That doesn’t sound promising, guys, so let’s just keep expectations low and be happy when we get sign-in notifications. That’s what we wanted most, right?
