Baldur’s Gate Thinking Inside The Box?

Baldur’s Gate Thinking Inside The Box?

None

The reveal of Baldur’s Gate Enhanced Edition, slated for release on the PC, Mac and iPad, was met with fan celebration. It’s almost exactly what fans of the old Baldur’s Gate titles, BioWare’s first forays into the D&D mythos, have wanted for years now: those same games, updated to take advantage of modern hardware (particularly with regard to screen resolution; 640×480 just doesn’t cut it anymore).

Fans of these titles, though, are fairly old school. Though the plan has been to do a digital release of the games through Beamdog, and that will still certainly be going through, there is a significant enough segment of the fan base that yearns for a boxed release to have drawn the attention of Beamdog’s Trent Oster, who posted this today on his Twitter:

“We’ve been surprised by the number of people asking for a box copy of #bgee It is something we are looking into”

There’s definitely something to be said for having a disc in hand, a physical manual, and any “feelies” the developers felt the urge to include, particularly when the title in question carries emotional and/or historical significance, as Baldur’s Gate certainly does. Will it happen? Time will tell.
