There have been quite a few rumors about Diablo III eventually finding its way into the console market. Heck, some of these rumors started before the game even came out, but none had been substantiated by Blizzard… until now.
Blizzard Chief Creative Officer Rob Pardo told Polygon that Blizzard essentially has a working console build of Diablo III. However, regardless of this, Blizzard still has not officially confirmed a Diablo III console release. Diablo III lead designer Jay Wilson said that Blizzard is exploring console options, but that no final decision has been made.
Diablo III is one of Blizzard’s only franchises that would make a decent transition to consoles. We have seen many top-down adventure games over the years and the console controller handles them just fine. It’s far better than attempting to convert one of their RTS games to a console platform. Anyone who remembers Starcraft’s failed trip to the world of the N64 can back that one up.
