Casual Sim City

None

It’s been a while since we saw a SimCity release, which is rather unfortunate. Finally, SimCity is coming back, only not in a way that will make its hardcore sim gaming fan base happy. We aren’t seeing a new commercial release or even an old HD remake of Sim City 2000. Instead, SimCity is becoming the bane of the hardcore gamer’s existence: a Facebook game.

EA recently claimed that SimCity will be coming back as a browser-based social game. They’re probably trying to take some of the market share away from Zynga’s massively popular social game creations. The game will most likely be handled by Playfish, a studio known for supplying EA with addictive social games. Unfortunately, this also means that Maxis and Will Wright may not be attached to the project.

In addition to this, EA will be creating a Simpsons-based Facebook game. It’s now official: EA has currently decided to drag every aspect of our childhoods through the social gaming muck.

All we can hope for now is that the resulting games will be fun to play.
