Social Gaming Comes To Google+

Social Gaming Comes To Google+

None

I know that there are some of you who have been trying to make the switch from Facebook to Google+, but haven’t been able to convert because Facebook games have become an integral part of your work day. Well, today is your lucky day; Google has announced the addition of games to its social network service.

Companies like Electronic Arts and Zynga have made a fortune from Facebook gaming. Zynga’s recent IPO noted, “To date, we have derived substantially all of our revenue and acquired substantially all of our players through Facebook. We expect to continue to derive a substantial portion of our revenue and to acquire a substantial portion of our players from the Facebook platform for the foreseeable future.”

Obviously Google+ doesn’t have the user base that Facebook has, but they’re tempting developers by offering them a bigger slice of the pie; Google will only be taking a 5% commission, instead of the 30% percent that Facebook takes.

Google’s gaming announcement was bolstered by the news that Rovio Entertainment would be bringing Angry Birds to the Google+.

“Angry Birds for Google+ Games is a great start, but it’s just our first step in social gaming,” said MikaelHed, CEO of Rovio. “As our fans know, we constantly look for ways to update and innovate our products. We want to delight our users by going way beyond what they were expecting. Social gaming is going to be massive, and we’re very excited about what we have coming up next.”

Angry Birds, and the other games on Google+, will gradually become available to all users. So, keep poking around the site, but don’t let your boss catch you. He might have some actual work for you to do.
