Angry Birds Had A Great Christmas

Angry Birds Had A Great Christmas

None

I think we can all agree that Anrgy Birds has become a full-fledged phenomenon. It has been downloaded millions of times and has spawned sequels, spin offs and product tie-ins. But, considering how simple Angry Birds is, you’d think that the market would be saturated by now. Well, apparently it’s not.

In fact, the Angry Birds tornado is showing no signs of slowing down. In a recent interview with the Wall Street Journal’s All Thing Digital, Rovio revealed that Angry Birds was downloaded 6.5 Million times on Christmas Day alone. “We’re really excited to have such a massive number of new people get acquainted with Angry Birds over the holidays,” said Rovio’s Ville Heijari. “We have exciting new releases lined up for 2012, and can’t wait to introduce them to the public.”

This massive grand total actually combines three titles: Angry Birds, Angry Birds Seasons, and Angry Birds Rio. It also included both the free and paid versions.

On Christmas in 2010, Angry Birds was downloaded roughly two million times. However, in those days the game was only available on the iOS and Android devices. Since then, Rovio has expanded to other mobile devices, consoles, and browsers, which has obviously expanded their potential.

Even though the game is more widely available, I propose that most people downloaded Angry Birds for the same reason I did: to find an escape from their oppressive families into the sweet embrace of virtual reality. Plus, those green pigs kind of look like my aunt.
