Angry Birds: Half A Billion Downloads

Angry Birds: Half A Billion Downloads

None

Recently, on a flight from California, I was suddenly struck by just how gigantic the Angry Birds phenomenon really is. I was sitting in between an elderly gentleman and a teenage kid, and both were playing Angry Birds on their respective mobile devices.

Well, Rovio confirmed my suspicions today, when they announced that they’ve passed 500,000,000 downloads in just under two years. This number included every incarnation of Angry Birds, on every platform available. They also revealed a couple of entertaining statistics for you to impress your friends with.

For instance, did you know that there have been 400 billion in-game bird launches? Or that when combined, gamers’ playtime reaches over 200,000 years?

Obviously Angry Birds phenomenon is pretty out of control. Rovio is currently working on more games, a cartoon series, and planning to open a retail shop in Helsinki, Finland. Pretty amazing when you consider that their primary product costs $1.
