Crytek Offering CryEngine Subscriptions To Indie Developers

Crytek Offering CryEngine Subscriptions To Indie Developers

Earlier this week, Crytek made a formal announcement on their CryEngine website about making their technology available as a subscription service for Indie developers. The current CryEngine SDK will still remain free, but developers hoping to make full use of all of the new features will have to pay a monthly fee of $9.90.

Crytek Business Development Director Carl Jones expressed his excitement over this new subscription model and added that a new software update is on the way. CryEngine technology was last seen in the Xbox One exclusive Ryse: Son of Rome .

After hearing this news, I would say that game developers should definitely benefit from the use of this ongoing subscription models. By having a monthly fee of only $9.90, developers don’t have to shell out a ton of cash upfront and in essence can spend more time on creating their games with the latest and greatest technology. Hopefully other companies will consider adopting this method of business and allow even more game companies to flourish as a result.

Do any of you think this subscription model was a good move by Crytek? Please feel free to let me know in the comments section below.
