Does Crytek Have The Xbox 720?

None

For the past week, reports have been coming in from all different sources about Crytek and its supposed access to the next generation of Xbox hardware. Supposedly, the TimeSplitters design team was doing something interesting with this new hardware.

Recently, and perhaps unsurprisingly, the TimeSplitters team has denied any access to the supposed mythical hardware. They recently released the following statement:

Relating to the recent rumours, Crytek do not have any next generation hardware from Microsoft, nor do we know when Microsoft may announce future hardware or what that hardware will entail.

Crytek are working at pushing the boundaries of what current technology can bring, including our focus on DX11 which will be released shortly as an update for Crysis 2, and we believe this work, added to our estimations of what the new hardware will provide, set up CryENGINE as a next generation engine for all consoles.

This is the second time this year that a company has been accused of having access to new Xbox hardware, as EA was in Crytek’s position last May. They too have denied that the supposed Xbox 720 even exists. Perhaps we’ll have to wait until 2014 for this new console after all.
