Bungie has been in some hot soup lately, and the future of Destiny is uncertain now that we know that the dev team couldn’t keep up with its initial schedule for content, and that “ Destiny 2 ” is further away than any of us anticipated. The game has been around long enough with its limited pool of content that serious players and early adopters have had all three classes maxed out for a long time. Now, the only thing really worth sticking around for are the special events and The Crucible. So far the special events have been hit and miss, and recently Crucible matches haven’t been all that great either due to a change made in the matchmaking system.
With the release of The Taken King came new algorithms to assess player skill as well as connection speeds. Bungie quietly made some tweaks to Crucible matchmaking to focus more on player skill, and the result has been long wait times in orbit which eventually lead to laggy matches. This isn’t cool, especially for the hyper-competitive Iron Banner. Bungie community manager “DeeJ” did address the issue in a recent blog post, saying: “In light of recent feedback from the community, it’s very clear that we have more work to do. As that work progresses, I’d also like to pledge that you’ll be more included in that process.” Bungie seems to be on thin ice lately; hopefully all of the matchmaking kinks are worked out before the PvP-focused “Crimson Days” event next month.
