Downloadable 3DS Mario Games Going On Sale

New Super Mario Bros. 2, the sequel to the much acclaimed New Super Mario Bros. for the DS, is coming to the 3DS through digital distribution, a first for a mainstream full-priced Nintendo title.

In order to build hype for the upcoming platformer, Nintendo is providing massive discounts on other downloadable Mario titles. Calling the promotion “The Month of Mario” Nintendo will put one 3DS Virtual Console game on sale each week, starting this Thursday and ending on August 19th with the launch of NSMB2.



July 26th marks the beginning of the sale with a discount for the original NES Super Mario Brothers, now priced at four dollars. August 2nd will switch the discount over to Super Mario Land, Mario’s first Game Boy adventure, for only three dollars. August 9th will bring us a discount on Super Mario Land 2: The Six Golden Coins, Mario’s second Game Boy adventure and the first appearance of Wario, coming in once again at three dollars. Finally, August 9th will reduce Mario’s Picross to three dollars as well.

Hopefully this promotion will bring people’s eyes to the downloadable game space, making them less hesitant to buy New Super Mario Bros. 2. If this works, then Nintendo will have taken a huge step toward a new age of digital distribution.
