EA Closes Bright Light Studio

EA Closes Bright Light Studio

None

More bad news for the game industry: EA is closing its Bright Light studio. The studio, which is noted for its work on EA’s Harry Potter titles, was shut down late last year. Some members of the staff have been relocated to other EA positions while others have simply lost their jobs.

EA has declined to comment on the specific of the matter, and the extent of the job losses is unknown. We do know that Harvey Elliott, general manager of Bright Light, is no longer working with EA. According to Develop Online, he will be taking a break from the industry after having worked with the publisher for eight years.

There is no word on what will happen to IPs developed by Bright Light studios. In October, EA said it was attempting to “centralize development on future projects, reduce development costs, and allow for better knowledge and talent sharing in its organization.” We should have known that this was business code for “upcoming layoffs ahead.”

To everyone who has lost their job as a result of this studio closing, we wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors.
