EA To Shut Down Old Game Servers

EA To Shut Down Old Game Servers

None

Whether you like it or not, companies can’t keep game servers running forever. This stuff costs money, and since most console games are free to play online—or at the very least require an Xbox live membership which funnels no proceeds to the companies that manage the servers you are playing on—less popular games simply have to be phased out eventually.

EA is currently looking to chop down its server total by quite a bit. According to an EA press release, the titles that they are getting rid of cotain “less than 1% of all peak online players across all EA titles.” So these games are unpopular enough to literally not affect 99% of EA’s game population. It’s a strange thought, considering how big these games were back in the day.

The full list of games whose servers will be shut down on August 11th this year is as follows:

  • Army of Two for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360

  • Army of Two Demo for Xbox 360

  • Battlefield 2142 Demo for PC
